Years 3 and 4 Science Club, by Mrs Harris

Year 3 and 4 had so much fun in science club this week.
We went out in the sunshine on a wildlife scavenger hunt. We looked through the grass, stomped on the ground to encourage insects to come to the surface and looked under rocks. We found many different insects including: a spider, a woodlouse, beetles, ants and bees. We even saw a butterfly!

Year 3 had a great afternoon identifying and classifying rocks! We buried in the sand to find various rocks, used our classification grids to identify whether the rocks were igneous, metamorphic or sedimentary. We then grouped them based on their properties!

The LFC Foundation will be holding a GIRLS ONLY football camp at Woodchurch Leisure centre on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd February.

It will run from 10am – 3pm at £15 per child, per day.
The days will consist of high quality football sessions, fun games and small sided games delivered by highly qualified LFC coaches.

National Poetry Day is the annual mass celebration on the first Thursday of October that encourages all to enjoy, discover and share poetry. This year, National Poetry Day takes place on 7 October 2021, and the theme is Choice.

Hi everyone! Hope you had a good day yesterday! I don't know about you but I am freezing today! Hopefully the sunshine will come back out when we are all back together in school next week :)
Here are your home learning tasks for today:
Maths: we are focusing on our column subtraction today- watch the video carefully to remind yourself what we do when we have to take a bigger number from a smaller number and have to use exchanging.
English: we are going to be using what we have learnt about the Egyptian Cinderella to put our own spin on a fairy tale! Share the story of the Princess and the Pea, and have a go at creating your own version of the story, changing different parts to make them more Egyptian!
Geography- this afternoon we are going to be Archaeologists and will be researching the top 10 discoveries about Ancient Egypt! What can you find out about the different artefacts? What do they teach us about the past?

World Book Day - 4th March 2021
World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. Our mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents’ educational background or their income. We want to see more children with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them. Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.
Throughout the day, your child's teacher will upload activities to complete to SchoolSpider however there are also a number of free events being hosted throughout the day.

In the morning…
BBC Breakfast: tune in to see Julia Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo and Malcolm Donaldson sharing stories while dressed up as the book characters! If you’re inspired, check out our ideas on how to make your own book character costume to wear while you share your favourite stories.
9:15am: Join CBBC presenter Kenzie Benali and Football School authors Alex Bellos and Ben Lyttleton for a fun, free live event! Hosted in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust and the Premier League, the event will be an interactive quiz, including a round led by footballers from the Premier League, the English Football League, and Women’s Super League! Join the event here.
9-10am: Scala Radio’s Screentime with World Book Day. Scala will be playing music from films and TV shows that have been adapted from children’s books, including The Secret Garden, The BFG and Harry Potter. There will be exciting conversations about how to get involved with World Book Day, as well guest readings throughout the day.
In the Afternoon…
1:45-2:45pm: Fonetti’s World Book Day online extravaganza! Register in advance to hear stories from Clare Balding and Christina Gabbitas, who will answer questions from young readers. Fonetti are also launching a new competition, where the winners can become a published author. Register for the event here.
2-2.45pm: KS3 event with Robert Muchamore, in partnership with South West ASCEL schools/libraries and Authors Aloud
2.30pm – 3.30pm: Twinkl’s World Book Day Quiz! Twinkl are hosting a fun, quick fire World Book Day quiz. For children in the early years there will be the reading of a short story then asking some fun, quiz questions based on the book to practice children’s retelling and recall skills. Afterwards, there’s some further quiz fun as children can try to name that story with Twinkl’s PowerPoint and/or try another scavenger hunt for some further screen free, energy-burning fun.

Maths- we are going to be looking at our column addition this morning, focusing on what we do when we need to regroup numbers.
English- today we have a very special English lesson! The whole of KS2 will be taking part in an assembly led by one of our favourite authors: David Walliams! Go to the link at 10:30am to take part!
RE- in our lesson today we will be continuing to explore the mass, focusing on the Last Supper. We will be finding out why was such an important moment for us as Christians, and how we can show our thanks to Jesus for the sacrifice he made.

Hi Year 3! Hope you had a great day yesterday! Here is your home learning for today!
Maths: we are looking at sequencing numbers today. Can you sequence the numbers in your number grid and then identify where 3 digit numbers would be placed on the number line to 1000?
English: we will be looking at the beginning of the story 'The Egyptian Cinderella' and thinking about how Rhodopis would have felt. Using the adjectives grid to help you, can you write a diary entry imagining that you are Rhodopis?
History: we have found out lots about the famous Pharoah Tutankhamun- today we will be learning about some more famous Pharoah's and finding out why they were famous and important.
Remember to upload your finished work to the School Spider!

Maths: we are going to be counting in multiples of 4 and 8 today- what do you notice about the numbers that you identify? We will be playing some games using these number facts!
English: today we are going to be comparing our new story for the half term 'The Egyptian Cinderella' with the more traditional tale of Cinderella that we are familiar with. What similarities and differences do you notices between the two stories?
Geography: in our Geography lesson we are going to be doing some map work to identify some of the main landmarks in Egypt and plot them on our own map. Do you notice anything about the location of the landmarks?

Maths: we are going to be looking at properties of 3D shapes and explore their faces, edges and vertices. We will also begin building our own 3D shapes.
English: today we are going to begin drafting our non-chronological reports about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in Egypt.
Geography: we are going to be exploring some of the different signs and symbols associated with Egypt, thinking about what they mean and why they are important to the Egyptian people.

Good morning Year 3! We hope you have had a lovely weekend and are ready to learn lots in the final week of the half term. Here are your learning activities for today:
Maths- it is Monday which means it is Mental Maths day! Complete the questions with your family, remembering to write down any important numbers you hear as the questions are read out.
English- we are going to be learning about Non-Chronological reports this week. Read the report about sharks and see if you can answer the questions. All the answers can be found in the report!
Science- continuing with our work about Humans and other animals, we are going to be focusing on skeletons again today and thinking about how they allow us to move in different ways.
Keep working on your timetables rockstars- Mr Worthington has set up a new battle for this week, the final one of the half term!

Good morning Year 3! We have come to the end of another busy week and are so proud of all the super work you have completed this week.
Here are your home learning tasks for today:
Maths- we are finishing off our work on mass this week by exploring problem including addition and subtraction of mass. Remember to look carefully at the unit of measure that is being used and remember that 1000g = 1kg.
English- we would like you to complete your poster, comparing modern Egypt and Ancient Egypt. When your poster is finished, prepare a presentation to share with your family what you have found out- you could even video your presentation and send it to your teachers!
Art- this afternoon we will be starting to make our African Masks. Hopefully you will have come to school earlier in the week to collect your resource pack so that you have all the things you need. Please follow Mrs McAlynn's step-by-step videos on our school Youtube to complete your mask. We can't wait to see photos of your finished artwork- please keep it safe and bring it in class when we return to school so that we can add it to our wall display.
The timestables rockstars battle is very close this week! Keep practising and winning lots of points for your team!

Maths- today we are carrying on with our work on mass and will be ordering objects from heaviest to lightest, and using the < and > symbols to compare.
English- today you will be creating an information poster to show what you have found out in your research about Ancient Egypt and modern day Egypt.
History- we will be learning about what everyday life was like for an Egyptian person. What kind of activities would they have done throughout the day- are any of them similar to things that you do? Imagine that you are an Ancient Egyptian child and write a diary entry about your day.

Good morning everyone! We have reached the end of another busy week and are so proud of all the hard work you have done at home!
Here are your home learning tasks for today- please upload evidence of your work onto school spider so that we can give you feedback.
Maths- we are finishing our week of learning about angles by looking at angles that are larger or smaller than a right angle. What do we call these angles? Log onto school spider to find out more!
English- today is your opportunity to use the checklist to go over the Tanka poem you wrote yesterday and try to edit and improve your work. Are them some words that would be replaced with better adjectives? Are you happy with the order of your lines? Remember that it still needs to follow the Tanka syllable pattern! 5-7-5-7-7
Art- this afternoon we will be pulling together all that we have learnt so far about African masks to design out own mask. Think carefully about the kind of colours you have seen used and the shapes that Artists have used to make different features like the eyes and the mouth.

Good morning Year 3! Hope you're having a good week! Thank you for all the super work you have uploaded and delivered to school.
Your home learning for today is uploaded on school spider. Your learning tasks today are as follows:
Maths- we are continuing with our work on right angles and will be focusing on clockwise and anti-clockwise turns. We will be exploring some maps using our knowledge of turns.
English- today you will be using what you have learnt so far about Tanka poems to write your own about the Egyptian pyramids! Think carefully about which words you can use to fit the correct syllable count.
History- this week we will be finding out about the Ancient Egyptian ritual of Mummification and why it was such an important part of their belief system. Can your order and explain the steps in the process?
