Events beyond living memory

  • Birkenhead Priory was founded in 1150 as a Benedictine Monastry.
  • In 1888 William Lever built a new factory in Wirral.
  • William Lever developed Port Sunlight so that his workers would have a better place to live.
  • In 1922 the Lady Lever Art Gallery was opened in the village of Port Sunlight.

The lives of significant individuals and their impact on my life today

  • The Wright Brothers made the first flight in 1803
  • Lt Yuri Gagarin was the first human to orbit the earth in 1961
  • Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon in 1969.
  • Tim Peak was the first British astronaut to walk in Space in 2015.
  • William Hesketh Lever and his brother James Lever founded Lever Brothers in 1885.
  • Prince Charles is the heir to the throne. He founded Poundbury in 1993.

Local History Study

  • Birkenhead Priory is the oldest standing building on Merseyside.
