Our F1 2s have had a lovely time at Clown around soft play for their Party Day ?
There are lots of photographs for you to see, we have sliding (complete with speedy wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee faces ????)....playing....dancing....jumping in the ball pond.....eating yummy part food...........who can you see having a great time???
Judging by Mrs Jones and Miss Jenkins happy faces coming down the (children's!!!!!) slide, a great time was had by all ??????
Year 4 Chester Grosvenor Museum, by Mrs Harris

Year 4 had a fantastic day visiting The Chester Grosvenor Museum. We prepared ourselves with shields and armour ready to walk through the Roman city of Chester. Once at the amphitheatre, we practiced formations and together conquered our enemy!
We marched back to the museum filling the streets with our Roman chant. Then we took part in a Roman education workshop where we compared Roman Chester to Chester today.
A fun packed day for all!

Year 6 - Come and Share
Year 6 had a brilliant morning at come and share. We created Christmas decorations, which included sewing and filling the decorations. We linked it to our DT project of ‘Make do and Mend’ and imagined we were making the decorations for an evacuee child from WW2. Thank you to all the parents / carers and grandparents that came to help. We had so much fun!

Year 6 have recently been learning about the circulatory system in science. The children have gained a good understanding of the circulatory system and that it is a network within the body that consists of blood, blood vessels, and the heart. Children today participated in a workshop which included dissecting hearts and learnt about the respiratory system in more detail.

Alzheimer's Society Elf Day - Friday, 2 December 2022, by Mrs Harris

We all loved our ‘Elf Day’ on Friday - school has never looked so green and red!!!
Best of all we raised a whopping amount for the Alzheimer's Society to help people affected by dementia.
We also have a winner for the beautifully made Elf Cake, carefully crafted by our very own Miss Cumings.
Scarlet in Year 3 looks soooooo happy that she's the winner!!! ????

We had a lovely morning creating our own Roman mosaics with our adults. We enjoyed telling them all about our topic on Romans and what we have learned so far, from the invasion attempts on Britain, how Romans lived, to the battle with Boudicca.

About the Author
Susanne has worked with Waterstones, children’s magazine Kaleidoscope and independently to provide book readings and workshops throughout the year and is the author of best selling The Donkey’s First Christmas. She has worked in publishing since leaving Copenhagen in 2006 and now lives on the Wirral with her husband and two boys of 15 and 12.
Susanne came into school today to provide some top tips for writing and also read her new book 'The Robin's First Christmas', which tells the Christmas story from a Robin's perspective.
The children had great fun acting out parts of the story and asking questions about how to become an author.
Susanne even signed books for those children who had purchased the book over the weekend!

Year 6 - Mini Pathfinders
Year 6, Miss Barron's class have enjoyed working alongside the C.E.L.L.S project, hearing from ex offenders and people who have been affected by crime but who have now turned their lives around.
Year 6 joined in workshops and discussed important messages about their choices that could affect their future.
The children also enjoyed looking around a mock prison cell and taking part in a mock court case ????????

What an awesome week Miss Barron's class have had, thanks so much to #minipathfinders, #TEAMBEB and #wirralpolice
The activities have been led by Merseyside Police and partners to provide information to Year 6 about preventing offending in the future and making positive life decisions around Anti-social Behaviour, lifestyle choices, such as exercise and food, road safety and cyber safety.
We ended the week with an awards session with certificates and cups presented by Police Officers present in school during Mini Pathfinders ???

What can you do to help?

Yr5 The Explorer- Sonnet 18 poetry, by Mr Glen

This morning Yr5 started to look at the poetry element of our source text “The Explorer” by Katherine Rundell. In class they have been looking at Sonnet Number 18 by William Shakespeare, the construction and rules to be used whilst writing a sonnet. Using this as a guide they then created their own original piece, based on the story so far in “The Explorer”.
Using this devised piece, we looked at the performance and the flow of delivery and how to use your voice (Pitch, tone, volume) to create an atmosphere for the audience. Over the session we looked at different techniques that you could use and performed to each other, giving feedback using WWW (what went well) and EBi (even better if). Each person then performed it again, after listening to the comments and improved their performance. We also looked at the Volta (the turning Point) of the piece and were you could go with it next, what else could you write your stanza about. Yr5 were brilliant and have created some amazing poetry.
Yr5 were absolutely brilliant and everyone was involved and engaged and came up with some excellent work. Well done Yr5 !!!

Aleah (Y2) who is is now a double under 6 champion after competing in the Ultimate Weekender Competition last weekend!
Brontë (Y3) for being a star trainer for her football club!
Isamay and Keegan (Y4) who both fought in Muay Thai last weekend in Bolton against Scottish opponents and both won!
Blake (Y2) and Cody (Y6) who both got their yellow belts at Taekwondo on Monday!

We have been exploring and investigating the properties of materials this half term in Science. We looked at a range of materials including: tin foil, paper, cardboard and wood, and talked about their properties. We then explored the materials and shapes used to build bridges. We learnt that triangles are the best shapes for strength. We predicted which of the materials would be the most suitable for building a bridge. The task then, was to build a bridge between two supports with each of the materials. We decided to keep one variable the same to keep our test fair. Each time, we would put a 200g weight on our bridge to see if it supported well. We tested our bridges and chose the most suitable material based on the outcome. The children were then challenged to make a stronger bridge using only paper. They were asked if they could incorporate triangles into their design. Some children decided to fold their paper like a fan. They were so surprised when they realised that it would now hold the 200g weight, simply by changing the shape! Watch out for those surprised faces!

“Percy the Park Keeper-After the storm” by Nick Butterworth.
This week we looked at moving as a hedgehog and what they might be doing when we don’t see them. We had hedgehogs looking for a new house, we had hedgehogs going to “Slug-Donalds” to get some slug nuggets, we had hedge hogs meeting up to have lunch together plus many more. This was a great improvised piece of drama by the children using what they know about hedgehogs. Well done Yr1.
Yr6 Goodnight Mr Tom, by Mr Glen

Year 6 today continued to explore their source text "Goodnight Mr Tom" by Michelle Magorian. We started to look at the characterisation and relationship between four Main Characters main characters, William, Zach, Mr Oakley and Mrs. Beech. Each person in their small group or pair hand to choose one of these characters and using Mind maps we wrote down what we knew about them, and tried to think as them (what would the say, think. How would they sit and react) whilst their group or partner asked them open questions relating to their character they had chosen in the “Hot Seat”.
We then performed this back to the class with everyone asking questions, which at time challenged the character in the Hot Seat. Each of the characters gave a real insight to the role and also some twists that may (or not be) in the story. One was that William was not Mrs Beech’s son and she was only looking after him, but his real mother died, and that is why she is so mean to him.
We then looked at the Play version of the book and gave half the class Act One and the other Act Two. They were given 3 minutes to prepare and perform a piece of drama, using the stage directions in the script and what we had already done (Mind mapping and hot seating). This was then performed back to the class were we then reviewed the performance using WWW (What Went Well) and EBi (Even Better If).
It was amazing to see everyone engage and working with each other and in some cases (when performing) some of the material was excellent with good clear voices and learning the dialogue, and by dramatic portrayal of the character. Excellent work by all!!!

Yr3 Stig Of the Dump, by Mr Glen

Today we continued with our text “Stig of the Dump” by Clive King with Yr3 and today I posed a question “What would happen now if Barney found Stig in the 21st Century?” “How would this be reported in a digital world?”. In their groups they had to select a TV news presenter and then each remaining person of the group had to chose a character from the book. The reporters were given wooden spoons, for microphones and had to interview the witnesses to the discovery.
They were given 5 minutes to come up with questions and answers and create, rehearse and preform the piece of drama. Building on the previous sessions of hot seating and roll on the wall, I was amazed at how well they did and how clear their performances were too. Everyone in Yr3 were amazing, but I was blown over at how good George was. His performance and handling of the interview was smooth, it had pace and when someone forgot what they were going to say, he just moved straight on and filled the gap. Excellent. Well done Yr3.
