Our Governing Body
Chair of Governors - Mrs Stella Elliott
The Chair and Vice-Chair are elected at the first meeting of the academic year. The standard term of office for a Governor is four years.
The Governing Body is responsible for overseeing many of the strategic decisions of the school. A key role is to act as a ‘critical friend’: to support, to challenge, to ask questions, ultimately to represent the school community.
School Governors are volunteers.
The Governing Body works in close partnership with the Headteacher, staff, Diocese and the Local Authority. Whilst the Headteacher is, of course, responsible for the day to day running of the school, the Governors are involved with such things as staffing, curriculum, school buildings and finance. It ensures the school functions well and maintains the proper range of academic and social objectives.
Governors also help to make big decisions about the school’s long-term goals. They support Headteachers, but also ask questions and make sure the Headteacher is taking the school in the right direction.
We have a team of dedicated Governors. They meet regularly and attend all necessary training to ensure the children at Our Lady and St Edward's Catholic Primary School are provided with the best possible education and experiences.
The Chair of Governors can be contacted in writing at: Chair of Governors, C/O Our Lady and St Edward's RC Primary School, 495 Price Street, Birkenhead, CH41 8DU or by emailing:

What is a Parent Governor?
Parent governors are an important part of our Governing Body. It is an interesting and rewarding role and a wonderful opportunity to have a voice in your child’s education. We welcome and support all new parent governors. Parent governors are elected by parents from our school community as and when vacancies occur. We will advertise when a vacancy occurs; in order to stand for election prospective parent governors need to be nominated by another parent.
