Celebrating Black History Month, by Mrs Schultz

Date: 20th Oct 2021 @ 10:23pm

In Year 2 we have been celebrating Black History month by learning about the civil rights activist Rosa Parks. After hearing her story, the children drew an outline of a girl. They then wrote all the characteristics that made Rosa such a brave and courageous person of her time. Some of the words the children wrote were really thoughtful and inspiring. We're really proud!

Friday 15th October 21: Yr4- Escape from Pompeii, by Mr Glen

Date: 15th Oct 2021 @ 12:35pm

Friday 15th October 21: Yr4- Escape from Pompeii

We had two brilliant sessions on our green screen filming of Pompeii today with Yr4. We started by looking at what we had already filmed in our LIVE BBC news reports and re-recorded some as they didn’t work in the edit. The children were brilliant and everyone took part taking on a specific role in role-play and participate in focused discussion while remaining in character. Whilst we were filming they used intonation when reading aloud the dialogue to camera, making sure to emphasise punctuation and inflection. They had to practise and rehearse sentences and scenes, using feedback on their performance from teachers and peers. I was amazed that I could just throw some of them in the “Deep end”, with no practise and they just improvised on the spot. WOW!!

The result is that we have some excellent reports and performances from yr4, and I cant wait to get it edited and show them their work. Well done!!!

Thursday 14th October 21: Yr6- The Wolf Wilder, by Mr Glen

Date: 14th Oct 2021 @ 2:21pm

Thursday 14th October 21: Yr6- The Wolf Wilder

Today Yr6 work really hard and were all totally brilliant. We went through the process and created a story board of what we are going to film. This was decided in the group and agreed. We started green screen filming of the scenes chosen to film and we also had children who became “Costume and Props” masters. We explored the use of green screen and the techniques and one of the children even came up with a fantastic solution to a film issue (Well done) which was brilliant.

I was amazed that they were able to follow complex directions/multi-step instructions without the need for repetition and they participate confidently in a range of different performances, role play exercises.

We were able to film different sections of film and we will review them next week when we start filming the final sections. Excellent work!!

Wednesday 13th October 21: Yr5- Ice trap- Shackleton, by Mr Glen

Date: 14th Oct 2021 @ 2:15pm

Wednesday 13th October 21: Yr5- Ice trap- Shackleton’s Incredible Expedition

Two amazing sessions with year 5 today. After we had warmed up, we continued exploring the incredible expedition made by Sir Ernest Shackleton. We start looking at the marking shots in front of the green screen from the last session, where they listened to the next part of the development of the project.

We started the principle green screen filming of the script, were the children had to become characters in the script. The children had to quickly remember dialogue and as a back up we had the words on cue cards. We also explored the use of green screen and the techniques and started to employ them in the film.

We are also creating the audio track for the film. This is done by recording audio narration from the script. This was a difficult process but the children excelled in to todays session.

Excellent work again from both groups as they used body language and the inflection of their voices to communicate to the audience. Cant wait to start next weeks session

Tuesday 12th October 21: Yr3- Stone Age Boy, by Mr Glen

Date: 14th Oct 2021 @ 2:09pm

Tuesday 12th October 21: Yr3- Stone Age Boy

Yr3 were brilliant today. We recapped on the last session, where they carefully watched the previous filming marking shots and listened to the next part of the development of the project. Yr5 were brilliant and followed all instructions and because of this we are exactly half way through the green screen filming of the book “Stone Age Boy”. This is difficult for any age but  the children become different elements in the story (Tree, animals, ETC) they all move together and participated in roles they had.

They also started our own audio recording of the story, reading the stories aloud, which we then recorded to create the beginning of our audio track for the film. Yr5 loved this.

Everyone today participate in role play tasks, showing an understanding of

character by choosing body language or inflection in their voices to indicate a person’s emotions in the story in both the filming and audio work.

Everyone took direction extremely well today, and I was amazed at how well the performed and waited as each scene was filmed or set up.

Excellent work again from both groups as they used body language and the inflection of their voices to communicate to the audience. Next week we will finish the filming of the rest of the book, and audio narration to film. When it is finished we will post online.

Over the last couple of weeks, Year 2 have been looking at 'living things and their habitats' in our Science lessons. We visited Father Michael's Garden, looking for signs of wildlife and plants. We then went over to our EYFS grounds and Edible Garden to hunt for minibeasts! We found all sorts of creatures hiding under leaves, under logs, in the grass, in the soil and on the trees and bushes! Great work bug hunters!

Thursday 7th October 21: Yr6- The Wolf Wilder

Today Yr6 work really hard and were all totally brilliant. We started green screen mark filming of the script, were the children had to become characters in the script. We also explored the use of green screen and the techniques that we will use to create our own silent movie of “The Wolf Wilder”.

We started by blocking a section of the piece and gave yr6 the opportunity to make improvements based on constructive feedback on their listening skills. They were able to follow complex directions/multi-step instructions without the need for repetition and they participate confidently in a range of different performances, role play exercises.

We were able to film different sections of the book as a rough edit cut and we will review them next week when we start filming for real. Excellent work!!

Wednesday 6th October 21: Yr5- Ice trap- Shackleton’s Incredible Expedition

Two amazing sessions with year 5 today. After we had warmed up, and play our new game “Shackleton” based on the game “Pirates” we continued exploring the incredible expedition made by Sir Ernest Shackleton. We start looking at the scripted piece (that we will be performing later in class) from the last session, where they carefully listened to the next part of the development of the project and could answer questions that were posed. They followed all instructions and they can recognise when it is need to ask for additional information or clarification.

We started green screen mark filming of the script, were the children had to become characters in the script. We also explored the use of green screen and the techniques that we will use.

They had to rehearse reading the script aloud, which we then recorded to create the audio track for the film.

Everyone participated in role play, showing an understanding of

Everyone took direction extremely well today, and I was amazed at how well the performed and waited as each scene was filmed or set up.

Excellent work again from both groups as they used body language and the inflection of their voices to communicate to the audience.
