World Book Day, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 2nd Mar 2023 @ 5:06pm
What a great day we've had for World Book Day, the costumes have been amazing! We've all had a slot in the library today, made bookmarks and had a virtual author visit from the CBeebies presenter, George Webster. We've played lots of games and read countless stories and poems. Our golden tickets, Mrs Wright and Mrs Dunleavy created a treasure hunt for us today. Our task was to find three more golden tickets hidden around school over the course of the day. The children managed to find all three and were rewarded with a biscuit treat at the end of the day! Well done Year 2!
Unidentified object in the playground!, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 2nd Mar 2023 @ 4:54pm
The infant playground was awash with excitement yesterday morning. We had discovered a pile of broken bits, nuts, bolts and wires scattered around the playground. We coned everything off safely whilst we investigated what it could be. Could it be a plane? A car? A submarine (as suggested by one of the children), a rocket or a spaceship? Who knows? Watch this 'space' for updates! (Pun intended!).

Year 2 had a finger-lickin' morning yesterday at Our Lady's!
Miss Cumings brought her trolley of treats to help the children design Christmas coloured biscuits - with EDIBLE GLITTER SPRAY!!!
We think some of the icing made it on to the biscuits... and we hope at least some of the biscuits made it home ???

Science- testing materials, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 24th Nov 2022 @ 11:25pm
We have been exploring and investigating the properties of materials this half term in Science. We looked at a range of materials including: tin foil, paper, cardboard and wood, and talked about their properties. We then explored the materials and shapes used to build bridges. We learnt that triangles are the best shapes for strength. We predicted which of the materials would be the most suitable for building a bridge. The task then, was to build a bridge between two supports with each of the materials. We decided to keep one variable the same to keep our test fair. Each time, we would put a 200g weight on our bridge to see if it supported well. We tested our bridges and chose the most suitable material based on the outcome. The children were then challenged to make a stronger bridge using only paper. They were asked if they could incorporate triangles into their design. Some children decided to fold their paper like a fan. They were so surprised when they realised that it would now hold the 200g weight, simply by changing the shape! Watch out for those surprised faces!

Mindfulness Club KS1, by Mrs Harris
Date: 17th Nov 2022 @ 11:30pm
This week in mindfulness club, we spent time thinking about our feelings. We spoke about the ‘Zones of Regulation’ and focused on what might make us feel different emotions. The children drew pictures to show how they feel in the green, red, yellow and blue zone. It was lovely to have some time to reflect and chat about our week!
Year 2 Anti-Bullying Week 2022, by Mrs Harris
Date: 17th Nov 2022 @ 4:25pm
Year 2 Anti-Bullying Week 2022
This week Year 2 have been donning their odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique. We have completed an anti-bullying champion mission and collected stars for being kind and showing how we can ‘reach out’ to our friends or adults if we see any bullying. We made Posters to show others how they can reach out too!
Y2LW Autumn Homework, by Miss Ward
Date: 15th Oct 2022 @ 10:36am
Some of the children in Year 2 have been hard at work with their homework. The children have loved sharing what work they have been completing from the Autumn homework sheet. We have had some brilliant new flag designs for Europe, Sunlight Soap posters, fact files about Owls, menus for a picnic, playground designs for a village and lots more! We can't wait to see more homework that you complete in the next coming weeks. Well done Year 2!
Y2 Trip to The Williamson Art Gallery, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 13th Oct 2022 @ 4:38pm
We had a lovely afternoon visiting The Williamson Art Gallery. The children explored a few of the galleries, completing a treasure hunt of artifacts from different collections. We then focused on the Della Robbia pottery collection, founded by Harold Rathbone in Birkenhead. We listened to the history of the collection and learned some interesting facts about some of the Potters (one of which was able to paint and decorate pottery without any limbs). We looked at the colours, patterns, shapes and designs of the collection and hope to use them as inspiration for our pottery painting tomorrow. Stay tuned for the results!
Y2 Homework, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 13th Oct 2022 @ 4:16pm
What a great start we've had to our homework this year. The children have become very interested in King Charles III, and have been researching his family tree. All the children could tell me facts about him and could talk about his family with confidence. Well done Year 2!
Y2 Come and Share- Thursday 6th October, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 7th Oct 2022 @ 11:25pm
In Year 2, we were extremely lucky to have recruited some parent (and grand parent!) helpers for our 'Come and Share' pottery making. We had a lovely morning making plates, bowls and pots in the style of the Della Robbia collection- originally founded in a pottery factory in Birkenhead. Everyone worked so hard and the results were amazing! We can't wait to paint our masterpieces. Thank you so much to everyone who came to support the children, it was lovely to welcome you all to our classrooms.
PSHE- Values, money and me, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 29th Sep 2022 @ 11:53pm
In Year 2 we have been exploring objects in our own life. Last week, the children (and teachers!) brought in an object from home, such as a photo or toy that held a sentimental value. We talked about how the emotional value attached to these objects was much more important than what the item costs. The children responded very well and must have remembered what they had learned as they wouldn't even sell their objects to their teachers for £100! Their favourite sentence of the day was, 'It's too precious to me'. Well done Year 2!
Year 2 'End of Infants' Summer Fun Day!, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 20th Jul 2022 @ 1:27am
Year 2 had the best day yesterday! We spent the first part of the morning making dens, building towers, chalk writing, bubble blowing, water painting, game playing and much, much more! We then went inside to play some games and relax in the shade. After lunch, the children had the chance to 'splat' a teacher with a water balloon! They looked far too excited for this part! We then had a mindfulness afternoon with a cooling foot spa! We finished off the day with an ice cream parlour! What a fantastic way to end the best year!
Seed dispersal in Science, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 11th Jul 2022 @ 11:54pm
In Science, we have been learning about seeds. We looked at how seeds are dispersed from some plants. In groups, we filled balloons with seeds, We then blew them up, tied them carefully and took them outside to our planters. We then popped each balloon to show the seed dispersal process! It was lots of fun, and with a bit of luck we could have some lovely flowers growing in our planters over the Summer.
Sketching Stained Glass Windows at Our Lady's Church, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 11th Jul 2022 @ 11:49pm
Today, Year 2 visited Our Lady's church to look closely at the stained glass windows. We discovered that there are different types of stained glass window- modern and traditional. We also learnt the names for the different shapes of stained glass windows- rose, lancet and quatrefoil. After walking around, disovering all the windows of the church, we chose our favourite window to draw in our Art sketchbooks. We hope to paint them in our next art lesson. Thank you to Father Michael for welcoming us this afternoon.

Astronaut Training, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 15th Mar 2022 @ 9:40pm
This half term, the Year 2 children have been learning all about Space. In History, we have been learning about the rigorous training that the astronauts endured. We decided to experience some of this training first-hand. The children were tested on various skills throughout the afternoon, then had to write a log of why they were important afterwards. The stations set up for training were:
Communication- The children were given a coloured sticker on their heads. They had to find out what colour their sticker was without looking. They communicated without talking (just in case the radio signals failed in Space!).
Agility- The children had to complete jigsaws and puzzles with thick 'space gloves' on.
Balance- The children balanced on a beam, then they experienced the feeling of G-force by being spun around several times before embarking on an obstacle course!
Reactions- Their reactions were tested by having to catch a ruler being dropped by their partner.
Food tasting- They tasted some dried fruit and vegetables- mimicking some of the dried and dehydrated foods first sent up to Space.
Strength- Mrs Loftus put the children through their paces by testing their core strength. I think Mrs Loftus will be asleep early tonight, her sit-ups and planks were amazing!
Well done to all! The children received badges and certificates and have now qualified as Mission X Astronaut trainees!
Sing for Ukraine, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 11th Mar 2022 @ 10:06pm
We were privileged to take part in the AmaSing's 'sing for Ukraine' fundraiser this morning. We also had a little freestyle dance session during our snack time, as the children were asking for the song again! Well done to everyone who took part, we hope it raises lots of money for the people of Ukraine. ??
Alien friends, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 11th Mar 2022 @ 9:41pm
Beegu the alien has been visiting our classes all week, but unfortunately she has no alien friends on Earth to keep her company...so Year 2 decided to make her some alien friends, of all shapes and sizes with playdough. We gave them names, and used adjectives to describe all their physical features. We're going to write character descriptions next week, we can't wait to see how the children describe them!
Beegu!, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 7th Mar 2022 @ 10:53am
The mystery is solved! The bits and bobs we found on our playground last week were part of a spaceship crash! We have had a visit from a friendly alien called 'Beegu'. She looks like she wants to make friends with us.
World Book Day 2022, by Mrs Schultz
Date: 3rd Mar 2022 @ 10:09pm
Year 2 have had an amazing day today! The costumes were fabulous and we have spent the day dedicated to books and reading. The children have designed book covers, written about their own book characters, cracked book related codes in Maths and explored an inspiring book called 'We're all Wonders'.
