We are now going to upload a blog and a video daily, explaining the tasks for each day. If you go onto the school spider to ask any questions you might have and you can also upload your completed work here. Also on the weekly timetable of work you will be able to find some links to videos.
There is a new times table rock star battle, log in and see which class will be champions this week.

Literacy –Verbs
Introduce what a verb is. A verb is a doing word.

Can you act out some of the verb e.g. run, skip, hop, clap, cry etc.
Complete the worksheet attached on your school spider. Can you write the verbs to match the picture and then draw a picture to match the verb?
Phonics – Consolidation
In Phonics, we are practising our Phase 2 and 3 phonemes:
Phase 2 (s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss)
Phase 3 (j, v, w, x, y, z, zz, qu, ch, sh, th, ng, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air, ure, er).
Can you try to read these words? Can you use your sound buttons underneath to help you?
mess, hiss, bun, boss, back, hop, kiss, cuff, dull, sell.
Can you try to read these captions too or identify the sounds?
I got a hug and a kiss. The dog bed is in a mess. A cat can hiss.
Maths – Repeating Patterns

Can you make a repeating pattern at home with different objects? Can you challenge yourself and use more than 2 objects? How many different objects can you use in one pattern?
You might want to use pasta and make a necklace. Here is a recipe for making pasta different colours. This might be something fun you could do with your families.

RE: Jesus heals the sick
Discuss with your child their experiences of being ill/poorly, who looked after them and how they got better. E.g. medicine, rest etc.
One of the ways that Jesus showed his love for people was by trying to heal them if they were sick.

Sometimes when people are poorly/sick we make them cards to ‘Get well Soon’. Can you make a card for someone to help them feel better?
Challenge: Can you write a message inside the card too?
Wellbeing Activity: Build a den – make your own private place and have some quiet time. Maybe share a story with a family member.

Here is a brief overview of today's lessons;
English today will be reading/listening to Journey to the River Sea- chapter 4. Then please complete questions 8, 9 and 10 from the attached document on SchoolSpider.
In Maths we are starting a new topic on volume and capacity and there is a conversion activity to complete.
History will investigate the Mayan Number System. There is video and PowerPoint to support your learning and an attached activity to complete.

Good morning year 3- another week of home school done! Well done for all your effort (both children and parents!) and for all the super work you have uploaded to school spider.
In our lessons today...
Maths- we are going to be pulling together all the things we have learnt about multiplication and division this week and exploring the inverse- how multiplication and division are the opposite/inverse of each other- and thinking about how this can help us to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
English- we are moving on in our poetry unit to look at Tanka poems and will be focusing on these in our lessons next week. Tanka's are very similar to Haiku's- can you spot the similarities and differences between them?
Art and Design- we are focusing this week on the facial features of African masks. Have a look at the different ways the eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows and cheeks have been created- what shapes and designs have been used? What ideas would you like to incorporate into your own designs next week?
When you come to collect your packs on Monday we are going to include your logins for both timestables rockstars and the online reading scheme- it is really important that you are using this as much as you can, preferably every day. See if you can complete a times table battle to help your class be this weeks champions!!
If you are returning work on Monday for your teachers to look at please remember to put your name on your work. We have had several packs returned this week with no name on and we cannot tell who the lovely work belongs to!

Happy Friday! We hope you all had a lovely day doing activities yesterday! We cannot wait to see all of your hard work!
Literacy – Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Look at the pictures that you created yesterday for your sequence of instructions on how to make porridge. Can you retell the instructions to an adult?
Can you think about the words we use at the start of instructions? For example: mix, stir, put, eat etc. These are imperative verbs or ‘bossy verbs’ as they tell us to do something.
Can you write some instructions on how to make porridge? Can you include the ‘bossy verbs’ in your instructions?
Phonics – Consolidation/Letter Names
In Phonics, we are practising our Phase 2 and 3 sounds:
Phase 2 (s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss)
Phase 3 (j, v, w, x, y, z, zz, qu, ch, sh, th, ng, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air, ure, er).
Play some free Phonics Play Games to work on segmenting and blending.
Write some Phase 2 and 3 phonemes (sounds) on some paper and cut them out. Can you make a path with them on the floor? Pretend the sounds are the stepping-stones. Can you say them as you step on them to cross the river? E.g. oa, oi, th, w, s, ff
Maths – Addition
Using Duplo blocks/Lego or make your own objects using paper. Can you combine them together to make an addition sentence? For example: 2 yellow blocks and 4 red blocks make 6.
Use a different colour for each number e.g. 2 are yellow and 4 are red. When we add them together, we get a tower of 6. Recap on practicing counting 1:1 correspondence.
Make addition sentences and work out the answers. Remember to use our + and = symbols too.

Before playing the video. Look at the front cover of the book. How do you think the dinosaur is feeling? What does the word worry mean? What might the dinosaur worry about?
After listening to the story – have you ever felt like the worrysaurus? How does your body feel? What can you do when you feel worried or scared? Act out what you would do/say with one of your favourite toys/teddies.
What would you say to the worrysauras to make him feel better? Can you draw a picture to show this and write some words too?
Wellbeing activity: With an adult, can you cook or bake something yummy to eat?

We can't believe we are already at the end of week 3 of online learning! Thank you for all the fantastic work that you have sent in this week.
The daily video explaining today's tasks is uploaded below so make sure you watch that! Don't forget to send us any pictures of your work to us through the school spider.
A brief outline for today
English - Today you will use similes and metaphors to form a descriptive piece of writing. You will be imagining you are Maia from our text 'Journey to the River Sea.'
Maths - Intepreting negative numbers on a line graph and answering questions alongside this.
RE - Following on from last week looking at our topic 'Exploring the Mass' there are some questions uploaded onto the school spider for you.
There is also the home well-being activities for you to complete at home with your families. We have loved seeing some pictures of some of you baking at home so please do send us any pictures of what you get up to.
Also don't forget to take part in the Rockstars Times Tables battle.

Good morning year 3! Hope you had a good day yesterday despite all the rain! Thanks goodness that the sunshine has come out for us today! Your home learning activities are ready for you on school spider :)
In our maths lesson today we are carrying on learning about division, this time focusing on dividing by 4. Have a practise of your 4 times table on Rockstars before you begin, because your knowledge of multiples of 4 will help you with your division work.
In our english lesson we are going to be writing our own Haiku poems about the River Nile. Look over what your found out about the Nile in geography yesterday to help you with your ideas. Remember to follow the 5-7-5 line syllable count!
In our History lesson this afternoon we are going to be exploring Egyptian Heiroglyphics- the symbols and pictures the Ancient Egyptians used to commuicate. See if you can decode the secret messages and write some messages of your own!
Make sure you are using the online home reading scheme to read each day with your family!

Recap how to make porridge and what ingredients and equipment we need.
Draw pictures of each step and sequence pictures for making porridge. Can they write time adverbials for each picture? E.g. first, next, then etc.
Don’t write the instructions as we are doing this on Friday.

Make up your own animal and draw it. You can combine two animals together if you like. We would like you to create a new pattern for your animal e.g. purple spots or green stripes. You might give it a name such as a ‘zebraffe’ (mix between a zebra and giraffe).

Here is a brief overview of today's lessons;
English today will explore metaphors and how we can use them within our writing to paint a picture to the reader.
Maths will continue with negative numbers and will have links to temperatures around the world.
Art will involve finding definitions to key vocabulary linked to our current topic. You will also be expected to re-create a piece of South American art work.

Good morning Year 3! Another miserable, rainy day! Hopefully you will be able brighten up the day with all your super home learning today!
In our Maths lesson today we are starting to explore division. Today we are going to be dividing number and sets of objects by 3.
In our English lesson we are going to continue looking at Japanese Haiku poems. Today you need to follow the 5-7-5 syllable count to rearrange the sentences in the mixed up Haikus!
This afternoon is our Geography lesson- we are going to be finding out about the River Nile; the longest river in the world! We will explore some of the reasons it is so important to the people of Egypt and the different uses it has.
Mr Worthington has set up new battles for each year group on Timestable Rockstars- let's see which class can be the champions this week!
We would love everyone to be reading each day using the online reading scheme- please get in touch if you need a reminder of your username or reading stage.
