Why not try and make your own floating forest?

Save the tops of your veg from this Sunday's roast, place in a tray with water and watch the magic happen!

Add any toy animal figurines and you've got your very own floating forest! (Takes 2 -3 weeks to fully grow?)

Why not line up your toy dinosaurs and create a 'Jurassic Landscape'- you could then google facts about each of the dinosaurs and add your facts to your masterpiece!

Here is a fun task for you to complete at home!

Why not read one of your favourite Elmer the Elephant stories and then create your very own Elmer using an old milk carton and tissue paper?! You will need some glue too - don't forget to check your packs that were sent home from school you should have some in there! (See pictures below!)

Elf Day for the Alzheimer’s Society , by Miss Flynn

We had a fantastic day today dressed as elves! Whilst having fun, we remembered how important it is to help charities like the Alzheimer’s Society who support individuals and their families suffering with dementia. We also learnt about how important it is to continue research into dementia in order to hopefully find a cure ❤️.

Della Robbia Pottery, by Miss Flynn

Year 2 have been studying Della Robbia Pottery. We visited The Williamson Art Gallery and admired the colours and patterns used. We were fascinated by what some of the pottery was used for!!

Back at school we designed and made some of our own using clay! It was really fun!  

Year 2 Williamson Art Gallery Trip, by Mr Chamberlain

Last month Year 2 had a fantastic trip to the Williamson Art Gallery! We explored the museum and had a look at their fantastic collection of Della Robbia pottery. We even had some practise coming up with some designs of our own.
This term Year 2 have been learning all about Della Robbia and will be working to make some of their own Della Robbia inspired pottery very soon! 

We can't wait to see what they come up with! Thanks to everyone at the Williamson Art Gallery for all their help on a fantastic trip.

Year 2 Come and Share, by Mr Chamberlain

Year 2 had a fantastic time with parents during our Come and Share. We have been learning about where we live and have been studying the United Kingdom and Europe. Children could identify the countries and capital cities compentently and knew which flags formed the Union Jack. Thanks for coming!

After our successful trip picking strawberries, Year 2 learnt how to prepare and make strawberry jam!

Today, we designed our own labels and jam jar covers. We really hope they enjoy the jam at home tonight!

Claremont Farm - Strawberry Trip, by Mr Chamberlain

This week Year 2 really enjoyed their trip to Claremont Farm! We learned all about how strawberries are grown and even got to taste a few (a lot)! The children loved being able to pick their own strawberries and find the ripe ones, they even got to pick some raspberries and redcurrants too.

Today, we'll be learning how to make strawberry jam and then we'll be making it using our own freshly picked strawberries!

Year 2 have loved learning about Australia and all the differences between there and the UK. This week we used tablets to find interesting facts about lots of Australian animals. The children have found out so much and it's been great to see them working together to research and learn.

The weather has been hot hot hot! Year 2 have been learning all about sun safety and have planned, designed and constructed their own suncream bottles! We loved their ideas and designs and Year 2 are making sure to keep protected during the summer.

Year 2 had a great time this week using watercolours to create a stormy piece of art inspired by Winslow Homer.

Year 2 were great at mixing colours to create different shades of blue to show the rough ocean waves and the stormy skies. Great job!

Year 2 enjoyed their visit to our lovely edible garden yesterday, our classes planted onion and beetroot seeds and gave them a good watering!

Hopefully we can return soon and track their progress.

 

Trip to Ness Gardens, by Mr Chamberlain

Last month Year 2 visited Ness Gardens to learn all about flowers, linking with our Van Gogh topic.

We really enjoyed looking at all the different types of flowers, learning about the different parts of plants, and we even got to get messy and plant our own!

Van Gogh Daffodils, by Mr Chamberlain

Year 2 have been inspired by the style and themes of Van Gogh!

Last week our class of artists used watercolours to create fantastic daffodils, they really enjoyed adding the detail to the flowers and using the watercolours to imitate the style of Van Gogh.

We then sent invitiations to Year 3 to come and look at our brilliant paintings.
