F2 Home Learning - Week 9, by Miss Dunlop

Hi Children,
We hope you have all had a lovely week! Please find the video attached of the story ‘Stickman’ and here are some activities for you to complete based on the story!
1. Think of an alternative ending for the story of Stickman! Does he get home to the family tree? Can you think of another way Stickman could be mistaken for a normal stick (eg. a walking stick, a chopstick)
2. Collect some sticks from outside and compare their length. Which one is the longest? Which one is the shortest? Can you put them in order from the shortest to the longest? Try and use your sticks to make some different 2D shapes and count the number of sides!
3. Use the sticks you collect to make your own Stickman! You could then use your Stickman to act out your story.
4. Find out about your family tree and write it down to share with your family!

Blog Ideas - Pirates
Hi preschool,
We hope you are keeping safe and enjoying the sunshine.
We are continuing with our topic about pirates this week. Have you been having fun with the activities Miss McNamee gave you last week? This week we thought you could:
Task 1 Make your own pirate ship using different containers. Find out if they will float or do they sink? You could even give them a pirate flag.
Task 2 If you haven’t made a treasure chest yet why not make one out of egg cartons. Decorate it and put some coins in and count them. Can you count them out as you share them with your family?
Task 3 Google the pirate song ‘Over the Deep Blue Sea’ and have fun joining in with the words and actions. Colour a piece of paper black and make yourself an eye patch to wear. Use a piece of string to fasten it.
Task 4 Can you think of your own pirate name and write it? Mine is Boots McLaren, Mrs Hayes’s name is Captain Hayes Peg-Leg and Miss McNamee’s name is Matey McNamee

Year One Weekly Tasks: Week 8, by Mrs Carney

Hi Children,
This week we would like you to focus your work around a short animation found on literacyshed.com.

You will need to watch the short clip in order to complete the different tasks. When it all seems blue, happiness may be close by… if you just look closely at your surroundings perhaps you will find it! Gabby is walking on the beach and finds a bottle of bubbles - when she blows it she gets transported into fantasy. She has fun riding on bubbles and meets people and things on her way.
Writing opportunities: Choose from one or more of the following ideas:
· Write a description of the beach.
· Write the story told in the film.
· Choose a creature that lives in the sea and write a fact file about it.
· Write a poem about Gabby’s adventure in the sea.
Don't forget to use your senses to add detail!
Geography:
In the animation, Gabby is on the beach. Draw a picture of a beach and label all the features e.g. beach, cliff, coast, ocean, port, harbour etc.

Look at aerial photographs of the UK and find some seaside towns. Would you rather live at the coast or in the city? Why?
Art Opportunities:
· Paint an underwater scene.
· Make an underwater world on a paper plate
· Draw the outline of a fish and use something (such as a piece of celery) to print the scales
· Put some water, washing up liquid and paint into a cup. Use a straw to blow bubbles and then put a piece of paper over the top to take a print. Try using different colours and fill the paper.

Hello Year 3!
We hope you have had a good week and have been keeping yourselves busy with your families. This week we would like you to have a go at the following activities:
Task 1:
The PE Coach, Joe Wicks, has injured his hand and so he needs your help with his PE lessons! We would like you to create your own keep fit programme for children to join in with. You need to think of a warm up activity to get your body moving and then 10 different exercises to do for 1 minute each, for example, jumping jacks, lunges or bunny hops. Remember to include some stretches at the end to help you cool down!
Task 2:
We would like you to design a healthy menu to share with your family at home, including a starter, main course, dessert and drink. Can you write recipes for each of your dishes with clear instructions to make them? Share them with your families at home to see what they think!
Task 3:
In our History lessons we would have been starting to learn about Parkgate after the half term, and so we would like you to do some research and find out as much as you can about Parkgate. Can you find out what it was originally used for?

Hi children,
We hope you are OK. This week we are going to learn about Pirates! ARRRR!
We have found some lovely pirate activities for you to do whilst you're at home.
Task 1: Pirates love to hide their treasure! Pretend you have hidden some treasure in your garden, can you make a map to lead someone in your house to the hidden treasure? I will put some picture examples for you below.
Task 2: Use some old boxes, packaging and other materials to make a pirate accessory. It could be a treasure chest, a telescope, a sword or maybe even a parrot!
Task 3: Can you think of some more words that start with the 'p' sound?
Task 4: Design a flag for your very own pirate ship.

We hope you have all had a lovely week! Please find the video attached of the story ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ and here are some activities for you to complete based on the story!
- Make a poster to advertise a new clothes shop for giants.
- Make a price list of the giant-sized clothes in the shop. Can you write the amounts of how much they cost?
- Design some new sets of clothes for the giant to wear on different occasions (e.g. parties, holiday).
- Make a map of the town that shows the places in the book.
- The giant helps lots of different animals throughout the story. Think of a way that you could help somebody today.

Hi, Year One! This week we are going to be learning a new word: SIMILIES. You already use similies without even realising it! Have a look at this video which explains what they are:

Now you know what a simile is we would like you to think of as many as you can. Lots of similies mention animals: can you use each of these animals in a simile?

Remember to use the word like or as in your similes. Can you write some of them down in your neatest handwriting?
Now read the book Quick As A Cricket by Audrey Wood (you can find it online) and see how many similies you can spot….there are LOTS!!
In MATHS this week we are learning about CAPACITY and VOLUME. Begin by reading the story: Mr Archimedes’ Bath (available online) and use the language: empty, nearly empty, half full, nearly full and full to describe how much water is in his bath. Then you can have fun filling containers, using water outside if the weather is nice, or maybe pasta or rice and write labels to say how much is in each container (full, empty, half full etc).Can you put them in order from empty to full? Use an egg cup or an empty yoghurt pot to count how many cups of water or pasta it takes to fill different containers; put them in order too. Compare two containers and explain to a grown up which one holds more/less and tell them how you know. You could also find out the names of the units we use to measure capacity and volume ( Clue:look at the labels on bottles!)
SCIENCE:
In Science we have started to think about Materials. This week we would like you to find lots of different objects and test them to see if they float or sink. You could do this in a paddling pool or maybe in the bath, or just ask for a bowl of water: but make sure there is a grown-up around to keep an eye on you while you do this!
Create a table (see below) to show your results. Draw each object you tested in the correct part of the table and write a label to say what it is. Think about what each object is made from. What have you found out by doing this investigation? Do all wooden objects float? Do all metal objects sink? Do all big objects sink? Do all small objects float?

Year One Challenge Tasks Week 6
This week we are looking at how to write a postcard to our friends or family. I know we haven’t been able to visit anywhere lately but have a think of somewhere you have been or would like to go. When we write a postcard, we need to include some writing about what you have been doing on your holiday and write the name and address of who you are sending it to.
Ask a grown-up to help you look for examples and show you where to put the stamp. Have you learnt your address yet? Maybe this week you could learn your phone number too!
For Maths we are looking at money. Using different coins e.g. 1p, 2p, 5p, can you find ways of making 10p, 20p, 50p and £1. How many variations can you create?
If you have time you could create a little holiday shop. Draw some pictures of items you might buy on holiday, ice-creams, drinks, toys and souvenirs. You could then put prices on them and play shop with another member of your family.
In History, we are looking at holidays in the past. Can you find some old pictures of holiday destinations? Have a look at the similarities and differences. What is your favourite thing to do on holiday?

- Can you write a list of qualities that make a good friend and draw a picture of one of your friends who you miss from school!
- Can you gather some items in your house and see if they sink or float when you put them in water. Can you predict whether the item will sink or float and write a list of your findings!
- Can you use a container to have a look at different capacities. Can you use water to make the container full, nearly full, half full, nearly empty and empty?
- Research other animals that live under the sea and choose one to make. Have a look at the image attached with some ideas on or make one of your own!

Hi everyone, Mrs McLaren here.
Hope you are all OK.
We are missing you lots, but we are really enjoying seeing your photographs of the activities you are doing.
This week we are going to read the story of Little Red RidingHood
Once we have read the story we would like you to take part in some tasks.
Task 1: Draw a picture and write the name of your fairy tale character and have a try at writing their name. My favourite is the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk and the Cheeky Gingerbread Man.
Task 2: Make a mask for the Big Bad Wolf using materials you can find around the home, making sure you make big, ears, big eyes and BIG TEETH RRRRRR.
Task 3: Make a fruit basket up for granny. As you do, count how many of each fruit or vegetable you are putting in.
Task 4: Ask your family to help you act out the story of Little Red Ridinghood and maybe tthinnk about a different ending to the story. Try to wear your mask.
We can't wait to see you soon and see all of your tasks.

Hello Year 3!
We hope you have had a good week and enjoyed celebrating VE Day with your family. This week we would like you to have a go at the following tasks:
Task 1:
We are coming towards the end of Spring and our local area is full of signs of new life! We would like you to write a poem about Spring time, either as a shape poem (like you wrote when we read Stone Age Boy) or as a Haiku or Tanka poem (like you wrote when we read Ahmed’s Secret).
Remember a Haiku has 3 lines and a syllable count of 5, 7, 5. A Tanka has 5 lines and a syllable count of 5, 7, 5, 7, 7.
Task 2:
This week we would also like you to create a Spring collage; using the colours of Spring, resources from your home learning pack and any items you find in the garden or outside.
Task 3:
Keep practising your times tables using the videos on the BBC website. This week we would like you to practise your 6 x table, learning the song and dance routine.

Foundation Stage 1 Weekly Tasks: Week 5, by Miss McNamee

Hi children,
We hope that you have enjoyed your fairy tasks this week - did any fairies come into your garden?
We have seen some fantastic photographs of your work so far! Please do keep sending these in, we love to see how you are getting on.
This week, we are moving on from fairies to fairy tales! Here are some tasks for you to have a go at:
Task 1: Listen to the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. What did Goldilocks do in the Bears' house? What happened when the Bears came home? Try to retell the story to someone at home. Can you using different voices for the different characters? Maybe you could make some puppets to use help you to retell the story!
Task 2: Daddy, Mummy and Baby Bear each had a bowl of porridge. How many bowls of porridge did they have altogether? You could use your fingers or draw pictures to help you to work out the answer.
Task 3: Goldilocks and the Three Bears love eating porridge! Try making some porridge with a grown-up. Why don't you add some different toppings onto your porridge - you could try jam, fruit or honey. Do you like porridge?
Task 4: Baby Bear loves to sleep in bed with his favourite teddy bear. Do you have a favourite teddy bear or toy? Draw or paint a picture of yours!
